My lil' Grif at 7 months old and now!
Happy Birthday Griffin, YOU'RE 2!!!!!
Well the holidays are over, Thank God! It was more like the running of the bulls then the holiday season. Don't get me wrong, we had an incredible time. The children got tons of gifts and we socialized with ALL our friends and family. To me, that's what the holidays are all about. Not the 10,000 cookies I baked and now I am paying for it big time. But now that the decorations are down and it's time to get back to the real world.
On January 5th, 2009 I went into the hospital at 7am. It was freezing outside...well DUH, this is BUFFALO! By 10:30am Griffin Henry Michael made his grand debut. The only problem was, he couldn't breathe. They whisked my little boy to the NICU where he was diagnosed as having a Pneumothorax or collapsed lung. He was intibated and a chest tube was inserted. He would stay in the NICU for 2 weeks of his life. Several times we almost lost him. It was just as scary as the triplets who were born 8 weeks early and struggling for life. I asked myself "Why does this keep happening to us?". I mean Griffin was FULL TERM and 8.5lbs! I realized this isn't happening to US, it's happening to HIM. There is no rhyme or reason. We where not being punished. We put it all in Gods hands and prayed for strength for our 5th tiny miracle.
Fast forward 2 years. Griffin is a HEALTHY HAPPY now 2 year old. He is the happiest kid I have ever met. A total Momma's boy who's smile lights up the room. He has some developmental delays but we are working hard to overcome them. He is so strong and strong willed...I don't know where he gets that from(wink wink). He is my littlest love and I can't imagine my life without him.
Every year on their birthday I write my children a letter....
When I found out I was pregnant with you I was elated. I thought after all our struggles with infertility, a baby with no medical intervention must be a gift from God. Throughout the last 2 years you have proved that theory true. You are a gift to me and your Dad every single day.
You make me smile when I'm sad and you make me laugh like I've never laughed before. I love your little babbles as you gallop through the house. The fact that you can stop whatever your doing to dance to music from a car driving by always makes me smile. You carry your "Blankie" everywhere you go and you love anything Elmo. Baby Einstein is your absolute favorite and it has taught you to use sign language to communicate with us. The fact that you cry my name makes me cry but warms my heart when I come and you throw your arms around me and SQUEEZE! My favorite time of day is when it's just us two playing pat-e-cake and now itsy bitsy spider. I'm sorry most people will forget about your birthday because it's so close to Christmas...I NEVER WILL! It will always be the day my life changed FOREVER!
I love you Griffin so much it hurts. I want to give you the world a million times over. You make me a better person and mother. I can't imagine my life without my littlest love! Happy 2nd Birthday Grif!
